Introducing El Jibarito Coffee

Café El Jibarito is a 100% single-origin coffee from the mountains of Puerto Rico. We are proud to offer an exquisite medium roast made from the ripe red fruits of the Caturra, Limani and Frontón coffee varieties, grown at Finca La Perla, located on the border of Mayagüez and Maricao in Puerto Rico’s Cordillera Central region. Our coffee is roasted to perfection to deliver an exceptional taste.

Traditional Methods and Processing

The coffee beans are carefully handpicked when the fruit reaches peak ripeness. They are then washed in the natural spring water of the Yagüez River, which runs through the coffee farm. After washing, the beans are sun-dried, peeled, and prepared for roasting. To guarantee freshness, the coffee is roasted in small batches of 50-100 pounds, with the roast date displayed on every package.

Each batch is roasted by Luis Curbelo Rodríguez, who adheres to high standards to achieve the medium roast’s caramel notes and nutty finish. The harvest season starts with the first ripe fruits in August and continues through January. February marks the beginning of the replanting and maintenance of the coffee plants, preparing them for the next harvest.

History

Café El Jibarito, established by our friends at FarmMax, began in Lares, Puerto Rico, and became available to coffee lovers in June 2016. Unfortunately, Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the coffee plants in September 2017. After five years of replanting and nurturing, the summer of 2022 marked the first post-Maria harvest of Café El Jibarito! Now sourced from the Cordillera Central region near eastern Mayagüez, this coffee thrives in an area with similar soil and rainfall conditions to nearby Maricao, known as “La Ciudad de Café” (The City of Coffee).

With consistent growing and processing practices, Café El Jibarito ensures high-quality coffee, year after year.

Savor the Flavor of El Jibarito Coffee

This single-origin specialty coffee offers a unique experience with subtle chocolate and nutty flavors in every sip. Its creamy, low-acidity profile is savory at first, with a slight almond finish.

Our finely ground coffee (molido) is ideal for espresso and traditional Moka pot brewing. The precise grind ensures a slower water flow, delivering a perfect cup of coffee. We also offer whole bean coffee for our customers that prefer fresh ground coffee at home.

Café El Jibarito can be enjoyed using various brewing methods such as French press, pour-over, Chemex, traditional drip, percolator, Moka pot, or any other preferred method. Each bag is equipped with a one-way valve to extend shelf life by allowing carbon dioxide to escape while preventing oxygen from entering, ensuring freshness.

Experience the rich, authentic taste of Puerto Rican coffee with every cup of Café El Jibarito.
